Two requirements at once
Photo submissions almost always specify both a physical size and a file size — 35×45 mm and under 50 KB, for instance. Meeting one is easy; meeting both is where people get stuck, because cropping to the right shape and then compressing usually overshoots.
This tool does them together. Your photo is cropped to fill the exact pixel dimensions the standard requires, then compressed by searching for the highest JPEG quality that still fits your size limit.
The standards included
- 35×45 mm at 300 DPI (413×531 px) — India, the UK, the Schengen area and most Indian competitive exams.
- 2×2 inch at 300 DPI (600×600 px) — United States passports and visas.
- 600×600 px square — a common requirement for online application portals.
Why it crops rather than pads
A passport photo must be exactly the specified dimensions, and a letterboxed image with white bars would be rejected. So the photo is scaled to cover the frame and the overflow is trimmed from the edges, centred. Crop your photo roughly to a head-and-shoulders composition first if you want precise control over the framing.
What this tool does not do
It does not check that your photo meets the biometric rules — head height as a proportion of the frame, neutral expression, plain background, no shadows, no glasses glare. Those are judged by a human or an automated checker at submission, and no resizer can fix them. If you need the background made plain, remove it first and place the subject on white.
Common questions
What size is an Indian passport photo?
35×45 mm, which is 413×531 pixels at 300 DPI. Most Indian exam portals use the same dimensions.
Will this make my photo acceptable?
It gets the dimensions and file size exactly right. It cannot judge biometric rules like head position, expression or background.
Why was part of my photo cut off?
Passport dimensions are fixed, so the photo is scaled to fill the frame and the overflow trimmed. Crop to head-and-shoulders first for more control.
Can I get it under 20 KB?
Usually yes at these dimensions. If not, you are told the smallest size achieved.
Is my photo uploaded?
This one is processed on our server so the crop and compression search stay consistent, and it is deleted as soon as your download is sent.
What about the signature?
Use the signature resizer, which is built for the separate dimensions and KB limits forms set for signatures.
