    The specific problem this solves

Online application forms almost always ask for a signature as a separate upload, with its own rules: often 140×60 pixels and somewhere between 10 and 50 KB. Indian government portals, university admissions and competitive exam registrations are the most demanding about it, and they reject silently.

Meanwhile what people have is a photograph of a signature on a sheet of A4 — several megabytes, mostly white paper.

    Trimming the paper first

This is the step that makes the difference. Before resizing, the tool finds the darkest content in the image and crops to it, discarding the blank margin. Without that, squeezing the whole A4 sheet into 140×60 pixels leaves the signature a few pixels tall and illegible — which is why so many people end up with a grey smudge and no idea why.

Trimming is on by default and can be turned off if your image is already cropped tightly.

    Then fitting the box

The trimmed signature is scaled to fit inside your dimensions, keeping its proportions, and padded with white to reach the exact size. Proportions matter here: a stretched signature does not match the one on your identity documents, which is the entire point of the upload.

    Then the file size

Finally the image is compressed by searching for the highest quality that fits your KB limit. At these small dimensions that is nearly always comfortable — a 140×60 image is rarely more than a few kilobytes.

    Getting a usable scan

Sign in black or dark blue ink on plain white paper, photograph it straight-on in even light, and avoid shadows across the page. A grey, shadowed photograph produces a grey signature, and no amount of resizing improves it.

    Common questions

What size should a signature be?

Most Indian forms ask for 140×60 pixels at 10–50 KB, but check your specific form — the numbers vary.

Why does my signature look tiny?

Because the image is mostly blank paper. Leave "trim the blank border" on and it crops to the ink first.

    Will it stretch my signature?

No. Proportions are kept and the rest is padded with white, so it still matches your documents.

What if the form wants different dimensions?

Set whatever width and height it asks for.

    Should I scan or photograph?

Either works. Use dark ink on white paper, straight-on, in even light without shadows.

    Is the image uploaded?

This tool runs on our server so the trim and compression search stay consistent. Your file is deleted as soon as the download is sent.
