    Cropping is composition, not correction

Most crops are made for one of three reasons: to remove something distracting at the edge of a frame, to fit a shape a platform demands, or to cut a document down to just the part that matters. The third is the one people underestimate — a photographed receipt or form is usually two-thirds desk.

    Coordinates, not a drag handle

This tool takes numbers: an offset from the left and top, then a width and height in pixels. That sounds less friendly than dragging a box, and it is far more precise when you already know the region you want — reproducing an identical crop across several images, or matching a size a form has specified exactly.

If your selection runs past the edge of the image, the crop is trimmed to the overlap rather than rejected. Asking for 800 pixels of width when only 600 remain gives you 600, because that is plainly what was meant. What is refused is a crop that starts entirely outside the image, since that cannot be interpreted.

    Nothing is resampled

Cropping only discards pixels; the ones that remain are untouched. So a crop never softens an image the way resizing can. If you crop heavily and then need the result at a larger size, that second step is where quality is lost, not this one.

    It runs on your device

The image is drawn to a canvas in your browser and the region copied out. Nothing is uploaded, so it is instant, and a photograph of an identity document never leaves your machine.

    Cropping to a shape

If what you actually need is a fixed output size rather than a fixed region — a square avatar, a banner ratio — Resize image in Fill mode is the better tool. It scales to cover the shape and trims the overflow automatically, so you do not have to work out the arithmetic yourself.

    Common questions

How do I know the pixel coordinates?

Most image viewers show cursor position in pixels. Alternatively crop roughly, check the result, and adjust — nothing is uploaded so there is no cost to trying twice.

    Does cropping reduce quality?

No. It discards pixels rather than resampling them, so what remains is exactly as it was.

What if my crop is bigger than the image?

It is trimmed to the overlap. A crop starting entirely outside the image is refused, because there is nothing to interpret.

Can I crop to a square?

Set the same width and height. To scale to a square as well, use Resize image in Fill mode.

    Is my photo uploaded?

No. It is cropped in your browser and never leaves your device.
