Every tool here declares a duration ceiling

Video processing is not like a PDF. A ten-minute clip is genuinely minutes of work for a processor, and a web request cannot run indefinitely. So every tool on this page states the longest clip it will take and refuses politely up front rather than accepting your file, working for two minutes and then timing out with nothing to show for it. That is the failure mode of most free video tools and it is entirely avoidable — the limit is known in advance, so it belongs in front of you before you upload.

Compressing to a number, not to a slider

"High, medium, low" is useless when Discord wants under 10 MB or a portal refuses anything over 25. The compress-to-size tool works backwards from your figure: it computes the bitrate the target allows across the clip's duration, picks a resolution that suits that bitrate, and encodes in two passes so the result actually lands near the number rather than somewhere in its vicinity. If your target is impossible for the length of clip you have, it says so, with the smallest size it managed.

Merging re-encodes, and that is deliberate

The fast way to join two videos is to concatenate their streams without re-encoding, and it works perfectly right up until the two files differ in resolution, frame rate or codec — at which point you get a file that plays the first clip and then freezes. Because the whole point of a merge tool is joining clips from different sources, these re-encode to a common format. It is slower and it produces a file that works.

Codecs and what we ship

H.264 and HEVC are what everything plays, and they are also covered by patent pools that assert claims against encoders. Most free tools ship them without mentioning it. They are available here, and so is a fully royalty-free path: choose WebM with VP9 and Opus in the converter and you have a modern, well-supported, unencumbered file.

These run on our server

Unlike the PDF and image tools, video work needs ffmpeg and cannot happen in a browser tab at any sensible speed. Each job runs in its own directory, the file is deleted as soon as your download has been sent, and a sweeper removes anything a crash leaves behind. The pages say so rather than implying otherwise.
