Combining PDFs without uploading them
This tool runs entirely inside your browser. When you drop files here, they are read into memory by JavaScript, stitched together with pdf-lib, and handed straight back to you as a download. Nothing is sent to a server, nothing is stored, and nothing is logged. You can watch this yourself in your browser's network tab — there is no upload request.
That matters more than it sounds. The documents people most often merge are the ones they would least like to hand to a stranger: signed contracts, bank statements, medical letters, passport scans for a visa application. Every major PDF site uploads these to a server and asks you to trust a retention policy. Here there is no policy to trust, because there is no upload.
Page order is the whole job
Files merge in the order shown in the list, and the arrows move them. This is worth checking before you press the button: most merge complaints are not bugs but a file that was added second and needed to be first. If you drag in a folder of scans, they arrive in whatever order the operating system hands them over, which is usually alphabetical rather than the order you scanned them.
Encrypted files
A password-protected PDF cannot be merged until it is unlocked, and this is a genuine limit rather than a missing feature — the page content is encrypted, so there is nothing to copy until the password is supplied. If a file is protected you will be told which one. Run it through Unlock PDF first with the password you already have.
Very large sets
Above 250 MB in total the work moves to our server, and the page says so before anything is sent. On the server the same merge happens with pikepdf, each job in its own directory, deleted as soon as the download has been written. There is no size at which we quietly upload without telling you.
What stays intact
Merging copies page objects, it does not re-render them. Text stays selectable, links keep working, embedded fonts come across, and the file size is roughly the sum of the inputs. If the result is larger than you want, run it through Compress PDF afterwards rather than accepting a lossy merge.
Common questions
Is there a limit on how many PDFs I can merge?
Sixty files per merge, up to 250 MB in total in your browser. Above that the job moves to our server, which accepts the same sixty files at up to 200 MB each.
Do my files get uploaded?
No. Under 250 MB the merge happens in your browser and no upload request is made at all. Above that we say so on the page before anything is sent.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
Not directly — the page content is encrypted until the password is supplied. Unlock the file first, then merge it.
Will merging reduce the quality?
No. Pages are copied as objects rather than re-rendered, so text stays selectable and images are untouched.
Why is my merged file so large?
It is roughly the sum of its parts. Scanned pages are images, and images do not get smaller by being combined. Compress the result afterwards.
Can I change the page order?
Yes, with the arrows next to each file. Files merge top to bottom in the order shown.
