QR code generator

Turn a link, text or Wi-Fi details into a QR code you can download.

The blank border. Scanners need it — below 4 modules many fail.
Higher levels survive damage and let you cover more of the code, at the cost of a denser pattern.
Runs in your browser — nothing is sent anywhere.

Encoded, not registered

The QR code produced here contains your text or link directly. It does not point at a redirect on our servers, which means it keeps working forever, cannot be tracked by us, and will not break if this site disappears.

That is worth checking before you print anything at scale. Many free generators produce a code pointing at their own short link, so they can meter scans — and so the code dies with the service, or starts demanding a subscription once it is on your packaging.

Error correction

QR codes carry redundant data, so a damaged or partly obscured code still scans. Four levels are available: L recovers about 7%, M about 15%, Q about 25% and H about 30%.

Higher levels mean a denser pattern for the same content. M is right for a screen. Choose Q or H for anything printed, on a curved surface, or likely to be scuffed — and H specifically if you intend to place a logo in the middle, since that logo is damage as far as the scanner is concerned.

The quiet zone matters

The blank margin around a code is not decoration; scanners use it to find the code's boundary. The standard is four modules and reducing it is the single most common reason a printed code fails to scan. If you are tight for space, shrink the code rather than the margin.

Keep the content short

More characters means a denser grid, which needs to be printed larger to stay scannable. A short URL scans from further away than a long one — worth remembering for a poster.

Printing

Around 2 cm square is the practical minimum for a phone at normal distance. Keep it dark-on-light: inverted codes defeat many scanners.

Common questions

Will this QR code expire?

No. Your content is encoded directly in the code, not behind a redirect we control.

Which error correction level should I use?

M for screens, Q or H for print, curved surfaces, or if you are placing a logo over the middle.

Why will my printed code not scan?

Usually the quiet zone was trimmed. Scanners need the blank margin to find the code's edge.

How small can I print it?

About 2 cm square for a phone at normal distance. Longer content needs a larger print.

Do you track scans?

No. There is no redirect and no server involved — the code is generated in your browser.
