    A grid of photos

Choose how many columns, how large each cell is, and how much space sits between them. Photos fill their cells and the grid comes out even regardless of what shapes went in.

Every photo is cropped, not squashed

This is the decision that makes a collage look right. Each image is scaled to cover its square and the overflow is trimmed from the edges, so a portrait and a landscape photo in the same grid both fill their cell properly.

The alternative — stretching each photo to fit — distorts faces and is instantly noticeable. Cropping loses the edges instead, which is why the composition matters: a subject right at the edge of a wide photo may be trimmed. Crop tightly first if that is a risk.

    Spacing and margin

Spacing separates the photos; the outer margin frames the whole thing. Equal values look deliberate. A larger outer margin than the inner spacing reads as a printed page; a smaller one reads as a screenshot.

Zero spacing produces a seamless mosaic, which suits photos that share a palette and looks messy when they do not.

    Corner rounding

A little rounding — ten or twenty pixels on a 600-pixel cell — reads as modern and deliberate. A lot reads as a phone gallery app. Zero is the classic printed look.

    Layout

Photos fill the grid in the order shown, left to right and top to bottom. An incomplete final row leaves space rather than stretching, which keeps the grid honest.

    Common questions

    Are my photos distorted?

No. Each is cropped to fill its cell rather than stretched, so faces stay the right shape.

What if my subject is near the edge?

It may be cropped. Crop the photo tightly first if that is a risk.

How many photos can I use?

    Up to sixteen.

    What spacing looks best?

Equal inner and outer spacing looks deliberate. Zero makes a seamless mosaic, which needs photos that share a palette.

    Are they uploaded?

No, the collage is built in your browser.
