Voice recorder
Record audio from your microphone and download it.
Your camera stays on this device. No photo is ever uploaded.
Recording without an app
Allow the microphone, press record, press it again to stop. The recording appears with a player so you can listen back before downloading, and you can make several and keep the one you want.
Nothing is uploaded. The audio is captured, held in the page, and written to a file on your device — there is no server involved at any point, which is worth knowing before recording anything you would not want stored elsewhere.
The format depends on your browser
Recording uses whatever the browser supports natively: WebM with Opus audio on Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and MP4 with AAC on Safari. Both are good; Opus is unusually efficient for voice.
If you need a specific format — MP3 for a system that will not take anything else — run the recording through the audio converter afterwards.
Getting a clean recording
- Get close to the microphone. Distance is the single biggest factor in how much room noise you capture, and no processing recovers a distant recording.
- A soft room beats a hard one. Curtains, carpet and furniture absorb the reflections that make speech sound hollow.
- Wired headphones with a microphone usually beat a laptop's built-in one, because the microphone is nearer your mouth and further from the fan.
- Record a few seconds and listen back before recording the real thing. The level meter shows you are being picked up; only your ears tell you how it sounds.
Echo cancellation is on
The browser's noise suppression, echo cancellation and automatic gain are enabled, which is right for speech. They are tuned for voice calls, so for music you may find the automatic gain audibly pumping — a dedicated recorder is the better tool there.
Afterwards
Trim the recording to cut dead air from the start and end.
Common questions
Is my recording uploaded?
No. It is captured and saved entirely on your device. There is no server involved.
What format do I get?
WebM/Opus on Chrome, Edge and Firefox; MP4/AAC on Safari. Convert afterwards if you need MP3.
Why does it sound distant?
Almost always microphone distance. Get closer — no processing recovers a distant recording.
Can I record a call or system audio?
No, only the microphone. Browsers deliberately do not allow capturing arbitrary system audio.
Is there a length limit?
Only your device memory, since the recording is held in the page until you download it.
Can I record several takes?
Yes. Each appears with its own player, and you can delete the ones you do not want.
