    Seconds, or mm:ss, or hh:mm:ss.
Leave blank to run to the end of the file.

    Making a clip

Set a start and an end, and you get just that section. The usual reasons are a ringtone, a sample from a longer recording, removing silence or an introduction, or pulling one answer out of an interview.

Times can be entered as seconds (90), minutes and seconds (1:30), or hours (00:01:30). Leave the end blank to run to the end of the file.

The fade is worth turning on

Cutting audio at an arbitrary point almost always lands mid-waveform, and that discontinuity is audible as a click at the start and end of the clip. A half-second fade removes it entirely.

The exception is a clip meant to loop seamlessly, where a fade is exactly wrong. It is off by default for that reason.

    Ringtones

Most phones want something under about 30 seconds. Android accepts MP3 directly. iPhone historically wanted M4R, which is an M4A renamed — export as M4A and rename the extension.

Choosing the section matters more than the format: start on the beat rather than a moment before it, and a ringtone that opens on the hook is far more use than one that opens on the intro.

    Precision

Audio is cut at the exact time requested, not snapped to a keyframe the way video is — audio has no equivalent constraint. What you ask for is what you get.

    Format

The clip can be saved in any supported format regardless of what went in, so this trims and converts in one pass.

    Common questions

    How do I enter times?

Seconds, mm:ss or hh:mm:ss. Leave the end blank to run to the end of the file.

    Should I use the fade?

Yes for most clips — it removes the click an arbitrary cut causes. No for anything meant to loop seamlessly.

How do I make an iPhone ringtone?

Export as M4A and rename the extension to .m4r. Keep it under about 30 seconds.

    Is the cut exact?

Yes. Unlike video, audio has no keyframes to snap to.

Can I change the format at the same time?

Yes, the clip can be saved in any supported format.

How long can the source be?

    Up to two hours.
